  1. School Initiatives and Programmes

Reading Programme
In conjunction with the Speak Good English Movement, the school has launched the Reading Programme to inculcate the good habit of reading amongst our students, and promote proficiency in the English Language. Students are encouraged to read for at least 10 minutes every morning, starting at 7.20 a.m. Hence, we seek your cooperation to ensure your child/ward reaches the school by 7.15 am so that he/she can benefit from this programme.

Project ACT (Active Contributors Think)
Project ACT was launched to involve all students as active contributors in the process of decision making for school improvement. Form and Co-form teachers discuss issues with students and recommendations are submitted to the School Management Committee for consideration and implementation.

Based on the feedback from teachers and students from the first discussion topic, the school has allowed the use of the mobile phones by students within the school premise, in accordance to the guidelines and rules. Should your child/ward bring his/her mobile phone to school, we seek your support and understanding that he/she be responsible for the safekeeping of his/her own mobile device.

‘Value of the Month’ (VOTM) Programme
The VOTM programme aims to raise awareness of the school values and CME R3ICH values, and to create opportunities for staff and students to reflect and share their thoughts on these values during morning assemblies. Several parents have also come forward and shared their life stories and experiences with our students, reinforcing the importance of these values in character building.  We would like to invite you to join us in building your child/ward’s character and preparing him/her for the future. Do contact our Subject Head for Character Education, Mr Leung Yulun at 62612489 (Ext. 115) or leung_yulun@moe.edu.sg for further discussion.

Mother Tongue Fortnight - Ethic Celebration
The Mother Tongue Languages (MTL) Department initiated a fortnight celebration to extend learning of MTL beyond the boundaries of the classroom, and harnessing expertise from parents and community. One of the events is the Ethic Celebration in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebration whereby all ethnic groups came together to share on their culture, and staff showcasing their talents.

33rd Annual Cross Country Championships 2011
The 33rd Annual Cross Country Championships was held on Friday, 25 February 2011 at Jurong Lake Park and Chinese Gardens. Please visit our school website for the list of winners and photographs of the event.

  1. School Rules and Regulations

Our school offers students a highly structured programme that emphasizes effective learning for both academic and non academic achievements. In order to implement such a programme, the school will foster an environment stressing disciplined behaviour, a dress code and punctuality.  Therefore, it is necessary that you and your child/ward have a clear understanding of the rules and regulations governing discipline, attendance and dress code and understand that non-compliance may result in disciplinary action for your child/ward.  [Please refer to the student handbook for details.]

  1. Moving Forward

Programme to RAIse the standard of Spoken English (PRAISE)
The English Language Department will roll out this programme in Term 2. Students will be given opportunities to share with their teachers and peers on commonly mispronounced words and how to speak good English during morning assemblies. We hope you will be able to reinforce the importance through sharing with your child/ward when opportunity arises or sharing with our students in school.  Feel free to contact Mdm Ivy Koh, Vice Principal, at 62612489 or ycss@moe.edu.sg for a discussion.

33rd Annual Track & Field Championships 2011
It will be held on 8 April at the Clementi Stadium from 7.30 am to 12.30 pm.
[Parent’s notification letter will not be issued again for this event.]

MOE ExCEL Fest
The MOE ExCEL Fest is an annual event that celebrates and shares exciting and innovative practices in schools. It is also a platform for parents and members of the public to find out more about the latest developments in our Education landscape. This event will be opened to the public on 2 Apr 2011 (Sat) at the Suntec International Convention & Exhibition Centre. You are invited to visit our school display booth for details of our innovation endeavours in nurturing our students.

  1. I hope this letter has been helpful for your information and planning. Further details of the school achievements and initiatives/programmes are available in the school website: http://www.ycss.edu.sg.
