Our English Curriculum – ‘Rich Language for All’

The curriculum aims to provide all students with the opportunities and resources to develop the language skills they need to pursue life’s goals and to participate fully as informed and productive members of society. Lessons are designed to engage students in authentic and meaningful language learning, with the flexibility to differentiate instruction to stretch, enrich and enhance students’ written and oral communications skills. Added emphasis is placed on ‘Rich Language for All’, and thus, extensive reading of age-appropriate literature, development of media literacy skills and appreciation of the literary arts are also nurtured and encouraged.

Our Approach to Foster Learning –
‘A Blended Approach’

The curriculum framework adopted is based on an adaptation of the Understanding by Design (UBD) model and uses key curriculum organisers such as Identity, Conflict, Change, Choice and Systems to bridge, integrate or unify all knowledge and skills taught. A combination of learner-centred pedagogies and strategies – cooperative-learning (CL), differentiated instruction (DI), language arts (LA), multiple intelligence (MI), problem-based learning (PBL) – are used to bring out the best in each individual, and thereby, raise their language competency and skills to a higher level.
