School History

1978

Yuan Ching Secondary School started in January 1978 as a government, co-ed and integrated school with Chinese and English medium students and Mr Chou We Chuan as the founding principal.

1987 - 1990

From 1987 to 1990, the school also functioned as a Pre-University centre offering Arts and Commerce courses. The last batch of Chinese medium students graduated in 1987.

1991 - 2002

The school suffered falling enrolment in the late 1990s but turned around in early 2000s with sustained value added academic performance and became the top value-added school for the Express course in 2002 GCE ‘O’ level examination.

2003 - present

The school was completely rebuilt on site from 2006 to 2009 under MOE PRIME project. The new school design provides an innovative, learner-centred learning environment, facilitates independent learning and group work, promotes social interaction for social emotional learning and personal growth; showcases performing/visual arts and students' academic work; and recognises student and staff achievements. Facilities include problem-based learning studio, departmental resource rooms and special teaching rooms, “Ennovation” and robotics labs, school-wide wireless network, AV Theatrette, dance/music studios, eco-science learning & healing garden, solar powered hydroponics greenhouse, student hub, health & fitness gym, indoor competition sports hall etc. The number of P6 pupils choosing the school as their first choice and the cut-off and mean PSLE T-score of Sec 1 cohort has steadily increased since 2005.
